Abstract The Crofer 22 H ferritic steel substrate was coated with an Mn 1.45 Co Cu 0.1 O 4 spinel by means of electrophoresis. After high-temperature oxidation under thermal cycling conditions, the physicochemical properties obtained system were evaluated. During 48-h cycles that involved heating samples up to temperatures either 750 or 800 °C, kinetics both and unmodified approximately obeyed parabolic rate law. oxidized at a higher than consisting coating. In its bulk form, consisted entirely cubic phase it exhibited high electrical conductivity. coating, on other hand, compact two phases—the tetragonal one—and characterized good adhesion metallic substrate. cyclic studies conducted for investigated (750 °C), coating determined provide considerable improvement in steel, as demonstrated area-specific resistance values measured steel/coating system. evaporation chromium these likewise indicates is capable acting effective barrier against formation volatile compounds chromium. can therefore be considered suitable material intermediate-temperature solid oxide electrolyzer cells target application.
